1. Am I eligible to apply for a 2024 Taste of Research Scholarship?

You are eligible if you are:

• A high achieving third-year undergraduate* student enrolled in a full-time program (second-year students may be considered in special circumstances)
• Enrolled in a relevant program at UNSW or another Australian university
• A local or an international student

* students undertaking a combined undergraduate degree (eg. BE/BE, BE/BCom) may apply if entering their final year of study in 2025. This exemption does not apply to students enrolled in a BE/MBiom

2. What are the benefits of undertaking a 2024 Taste of Research Scholarship?

• $6,000 stipend (tax exempt) in total period of 60 days project
• UNSW Bachelor or Engineering students may use their Taste of Research Scholarship project as a contribution towards their Industrial Training requirements (up to 6 weeks)
• Join an active Research Team and participate in current and exciting research.

3. When are the scholarships available?

The scholarships are available in a variety of research areas for a period of 60 days.

It runs all year around.

4. Do I need to submit my actual Research Plan when applying?

Yes. You are. Ensure that you discuss with the potential supervisor. This will include timeline identifying 60 days FTE and deliverables.

5. Can I apply to undertake a Project in a School other than the one I am studying in?

Yes. You can.

6. What is the deadline for applying for the 2024 Taste of Research Scholarship using the online application service?

Applications close 5:00pm (AEST) 21 April 2024 for Term start.

7. When is the start day and end day of the Taste of Research?

Recipients undertake a 60 Days project but the duration to be completed is negotiable between the student and supervisor. That is, the student may only work part-time for one or two days a week to accumulate the necessary total. To make up additional days, the student may also work in the holidays and term breaks, if mutually agreed with the project supervisor.

8. Do I need to submit any documentation with my application?

Yes. You are required to submit three PDF files when completing your online application – your academic statement (showing subjects and results), your resume (curriculum vitae) and project proposal (this should include timeline identifying 60 days FTE and deliverables as indicated by potential supervisors and will require supervisor to sign off to indicate their approval.

UNSW applicants – your academic transcript from myUNSW is sufficient for this purpose, unless you have undertaken one or more undergraduate years at an institution other than UNSW (e.g. two years at a university in China or Singapore). These students should submit a copy of that academic transcript (showing subjects and grades) as well.

Non-UNSW applicants are required to mail a certified copy of their academic transcript to:

9. Can I authorise another person to complete the online application form?

No. You must personally complete the application, and you are personally responsible for the security of your User Name and Password. Submission of your application requires formal acceptance of these conditions.

10. Which browsers are supported by the online application service?

The Taste of Research Scholarship application website is best viewed using:

• Microsoft IE11 or higher for Windows
• Safari 14 or higher for Macintosh
• Firefox 78 or higher for Macintosh

11. How many applications can I submit?

Only one application will be allowed for the Scholarship Program. If more than one application is submitted, only the first will be processed and subsequent applications will be disregarded. If you need to change your application after you have submitted, please contact Taste of Research Program Administrator (E: Scholarships@eng.unsw.edu.au)

12. Should I keep a copy of my completed/submitted application?

Yes. Print/Make a copy of your submitted application and keep it for your record.

13. Can I change my application once submitted to UNSW?

No.

14. Will I receive an acknowledgment of application receipt?

Yes. When you 'Submit Application' you will receive a formal Acknowledgment of Receipt by email. Your application is not complete until you receive this notification and incomplete applications cannot be processed by the Faculty of Engineering.

15. Is Help available?
